INTERNET-DRIVEN
ALERT CLICKER FOR SENIORS

Large segments of the American population are aging and, as they age, become infirm, have TIA's (Transient Ischemic Attack, or mini-strokes), lose their ability to walk easily, and develop dementia. Many of them who are only mildly affected live at home or with their children. But their children, who are often working adults, can't be around them all the time. Button alert systems, which are connected by phone to central alert telephone operators, are expensive and overkill in many instances. Also, most of them will not run on low-cost Voice over IP telephone systems.

We are currently designing and writing software for a click-button alert system that is inexpensive, less than $50, and that hooks up to a computer using a USB port. It uses a typical three-button clicker, small RF antenna, circuit board and a USB cable.

When the clicker is activated, messages are sent to care-givers via e-mail, cell phone, telephone, or buzzer. Seniors can get fast access to help, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It's easy to use and can help seniors remain independent.

The most important feature of the device is that it is easy to use and very inexpensive. Twenty-four hour monitoring systems can cost upwards of $50 per month, which is quite expensive for those living on social security.
